Crossroads Bracketology 3.0 Update

Below is our Bracket Update 3.0 this year.  Rutgers and Purdue essentially flip from the previous rendition.  They are the biggest riser and dropper respectively. Coach K vs. Woj in the 2nd round? Hoosiers against Sampson in the 1st? Haha And of course, a new team emerges among the top line!! Let's Go Dawgs!!!!!! Their resume holds up to any other in the country.  The more I thought about it, losing by 1 on Baylor's home floor is like winning by 2 on a neutral court if you subscribe to the 3 points for home-courtadvantage.  In college basketball, you could argue it might even be closer to 4 or 5.  Either way, if they replay on a neutral site, I like Butler's odds.  I

Purdue wins share of B1G Championship

Carsen Edwards scored 21 points and No. 11 Purdue clinched a share of the Big Ten regular-season championship with a 70-57 victory over Northwestern on Saturday. The Boilermakers (23-8, 16-4) secured their 24th conference title -- second in three years -- as well as the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament in Chicago. They came in tied with Michigan State and Michigan, who played each other on Saturday night. Edwards, the Big Ten's leading scorer, made just 6 of 18 shots. Nojel Eastern scored a career-high 15, and Purdue bounced back from a loss at Minnesota on Tuesday to win for the 17th time in 20 games. A season that didn't start off so well for Purdue, turned around and surprised a lot of

#15 Purdue survives IU upset bid in gritty game 48-46

The greatest rivalry in basketball continued Tuesday night in Bloomington as #15 Boilermakers visited the Indiana Hoosiers.  Purdue survived a sloppy game at Indiana 48-46 and moved into a 3-way tie for 1st place in the Big Ten. This was rivalry basketball at its ugliest! Matt Haarms tipped in a basket with 3.2 seconds remaining gave Purdue the final lead of the night.  Ryan Cline had 11 points, and Haarms finished with six for the Boilermakers (19-7, 12-3 Big Ten), who have won three straight at Assembly Hall for the first time in school history. It didn't come easily. Indiana's Romeo Langford scored 14 points despite not taking a shot in the second half, and Juwan Morgan's 3-pointer grazed the rim at the buzzer. Morgan had nine points

Jeff Brohm turns down Louisville; Will remain at Purdue

Purdue head football coach Jeff Brohm is staying in West Lafayette.  Brohm had reportedly spoken this week with the University of Louisville about their vacant head coaching position. In an unofficial statement shared with WAVE-TV on behalf of Brohm, the coach said "it is important to finish the building process we have begun" at Purdue. "This has been a very difficult and emotional decision for me and my family. We are extremely happy at Purdue and thankful for the opportunity to lead this program. After intense and thorough discussion, I believe it is important to finish the building process we have begun and honor the commitment I made to our football program, players, and recruits. While going home was very appealing and

Purdue loses thriller to Wisconsin 47-44 in 3 OT

WEST LAFAYETTE-   Purdue and Wisconsin met up on a cold November Saturday at Ross-Ade Stadium on Purdue Senior Day.  The Boilermakers entered the contest 5-5 (4-3) and with a win would become bowl eligible.  Wisconsin entered the game today without their starting QB Alex Hornibrook who did not make the trip to West Lafayette.  Backup Jack Coan went under center for the Badgers. Purdue has 29 seniors on their team who are playing their last game at Ross-Ade Stadium.  There is also a cloud overhead the stadium as to if it is Jeff Brohm's possible last game.   Brohm has been linked to his alma mater Louisville after the Cardinals fired HC Bobby Petrino last week.  Louisville's #1 target is Brohm and

Crossroads Sports 2018-19 Big Ten Preview

Crossroads Sports 2018-2019 Big Ten Preview By Nick Peterson With another college basketball season upon us, I thought I would fulfill a long standing promise to produce a well thought out, and insanely predictive Big Ten Preview for this fine sports medium that is CrossRoads Sports.  For the past several seasons I have maintained a spreadsheet consisting of each school’s roster, a conference ranking by position, as well as a system to statistically compare each team’s overall standing.  I will share the process in which I try to objectively evaluate each school’s roster and how the system works before I dive into a little bit of analysis on each team.  Right or wrong, at least there is some statistic validity to the

Purdue cruises past Marian 75-56 in exhibition opener

WEST LAFAYETTE-  Purdue opened up their 2018-19 season with a 75-56 exhibition opener win over Marian University.  Ryan Cline had the hot hand for the Boilermakers shooting 7-10 from three point range and finishing with 23 points.  Purdue returned one starter (Carson Edwards) from a senior heavy team in 2017-18.  Edwards struggled from the field shooting 3-12 overall and finished with 6 points.  Purdue coach Matt Painter was happy to see other players step up while Edwards struggled offensively.  Purdue big man Matt Haarms scored 12 points and pulled down five rebounds this evening.  Marian hung around with Purdue early in the second half until Purdue went on a 24-4 run midway through the 2nd half to pull away.  Marian's
