Purdue Basketball Opens at #24 in first AP Poll Of The Season

With the air turning colder and the leaves falling across Indiana, the basketball season is upon us.  All four major programs in Indiana are expected to be good this year and earlier today, the Associated Press released their 1st AP Top 25 Poll of the season.

The Purdue Boilermakers came in at #24 in the first poll. With the ranking, Purdue has been mentioned in the preseason top 25 polls in four straight seasons for the first time in school history. The Boilermakers, which have won the ninth-most games in college basketball and the most in the Big Ten over the last three seasons, were ranked 23rd in 2015-16, 15th in 2016-17, and 20th in 2017-18.

Purdue has now been ranked in 57 of the last 58 Associated Press Top 25 polls, the fourth-highest total nationally. Kansas, Villanova and North Carolina have been ranked in every poll since the start of the 2015-16 season. Purdue has been ranked in every poll but one.

There were three teams from the Big Ten in the poll including Michigan State (10th), Michigan (19th), and Purdue.  Kansas sits on top of the poll with 37 first-place votes.

Purdue’s rival Indiana Hoosiers received 98 votes for the poll and sit (28th) and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish received 22 votes and sit (33rd) & the Bulter Bulldogs received 6 votes and (43rd).

The Boilermakers will open the season November 6th when the Boilers take on Fairfield at Mackey Arena.
