Penske Racing Drivers Simon Pagenaud and Helio Castroneves top the charts on Day 1 of Indy 500 practice

Penske Racing driver Simon Pagenaud was quickest on the day at Indianapolis 500 practice.  Pagenaud ran the 225.787 mph speed during the late morning practice session. Teammate and three-time Indy 500 Champion Helio Castroneves topped the speed charts Tuesday on Day 1 of Indy 500 practice.  Castroneves topped it at 224.665 mph w/tow at the beginning of “Happy Hour” just after 5pm.  Marco Andretti was 5th at 224.227 mph. Defending Indycar Champion Josef Newgarden was 4th at 223.229 mph. Penske Racing looks to be strong once again this month at the speedway and have to be the odds on favorite to win another Indy 500 title.  I will give my prediction this weekend on who I think will win the race so stay tune for that.

There were no incidents on track today and only a few stops for raindrops and lightning throughout the day.  It was a rather clean day on the course which is what everyone wanted at IMS.

Danica Patrick didn’t make it out for the morning practice due to some mechanical issues, but did make an appearance in the afternoon practice running a top speed of 221.558 mph.  Thirty-four of the thirty-five cars made an appearance on track today.
