My Masters 2018 Champion is…….

Tomorrow the 82nd Master Tournament begins at Augusta National Golf Club and there is a lot of electricity in the air with several key storylines in this year’s tournament.  The return of Tiger Woods at a high competitive level, Justin Thomas who is the hottest golfer on tour and just behind world #1 Dustin Johnson who didn’t compete last year due to a freak accident.

With all the storylines and feel good stories for this year, you would think it would be easy to choose Tiger Woods to win his 5th green jacket, but as much as I WANT Tiger to win, I just don’t think he’s there yet.  I hope he competes well and is in contention on Sunday in the closing holes but when looking for a champion, you have to look at who’s playing great golf, and who has success at previous Masters Tournaments.

There are several guys who I considered going with.  Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Tiger, J Day, Phil, and Rory.  Those would probably be safe bets to choose, but I am going to go out on a limb and go with someone who played great golf in 2017 and already in 2018.  This golfer has finished 6th, 4th, and 6th in the previous three Masters tournaments.  He already has a win this year at the Valspar Championships in March.

My pick to win the 2018 Masters Tournament is Englishmen Paul Casey.  Over Casey’s last 12 rounds at Augusta, he has shot 69 or lower in each of those rounds.  Casey is poised to win his first major championship this season and I feel there’s no better place to get started than at Augusta National.

He’s got five top-10s in his 11 Masters appearances, including each of the last three years. This year, in addition to the win at Valspar, he ranks second in strokes gained tee to green. The only one that’s better? Garcia, that other happy warrior of disappointment who rode his state of relationship bliss to last year’s green jacket. “A tradition unlike any other” begins tomorrow, so sit back and relax and enjoy 2018’s first major!
