This Purdue basketball team is good……maybe not just good but great! This Purdue basketball team is good in all three aspects of the game. They have an offense that is prolific and a defense that is stingy and physical, and mentally this team is tough and seasonedPurdue beat Wisconsin soundly last night 79-50 in front of a sell-out crowd at Mackey Arena.
I was in attendance for the game last night and the atmosphere was electric. The game was out of reach early and even with 3 minutes left in the game and Purdue up by 20, the fans all stayed in their seats and cheered and yelled for the 3rd-ranked Boilermakers as the horn sounded. There is someone special going on at Purdue this season and after each game, they are gaining more national attention and this team is starting to believe that they can win the national championship.
Matt Painter mentioned in the press conference afterward for the first time regarding a national championship. “And I think a lot of times expectations is the talk. If you want to read every article about yourself, I think you’ve got an issue. Because you don’t want to read every article about yourself when you lose. So just kind of keeping that mature pulse to you as a young person and understand that there are people out there that are gunning for you the next game and that’s how you win a championship. You win a championship by keeping a focus and staying together.”
The national media is starting to take notice of this veteran Purdue squad and just how far they could go in the NCAA Tournament this March.
After another dominating win, BPI now views Purdue as the best team going forward and the favorite to win the NCAA tournament at 21 percent. Villanova, Virginia, Duke, and Michigan State round out BPI’s current top five. pic.twitter.com/Jw7JFGDEDP

Purdue has four players in double figures and the duo of Carson and Vince Edwards lead the offensive scoring for Purdue. Dakota Mathias leads the team on the defensive end and the emergence of Matt Haarms shows that there is a bright future ahead.

Purdue is currently sitting at #3 ranking behind Villanova and Virginia. This matches it’s highest since being ranked #2 on March 7th, 1988. Ken Pom rankings currently have Purdue ranked #2 overall based on a series of stats and averages.
Purdue is a joy to watch. The ball moves quickly, they cut and screen hard and play good team defense. Like good pancakes, it’s a simple recipe but it requires a full buy-in to those principles (over self interest) which often only comes from older teams w/great chemistry.

More on Purdue, the new favorite (19%) to win the NCAA tournament: the Boilermakers’ BPI rating improved after dominating Minnesota yesterday and is now just shy of Villanova’s rating. Purdue is also the favorite (53%) to earn the top overall seed in the NCAA tournament.

Purdue has won 14 straight games and heads to Iowa City this weekend to take on the Hawkeyes. Purdue has 11 games left in the season and includes a trip to Indiana, Michigan State They play the other undefeated conference team Ohio State at home on February 7th which is shaping up to be a HUGE game.
Yes Purdue fans including myself are nervous about what we have seen in the past, but this Purdue team is fun to watch and has the talent to win a national championship. I am going to enjoy the ride and enjoy each game and cheer hard for these Boilermakers to bring a championship back to West Lafayette. I recommend all Boilermaker fans be hopeful and cheer on the team and stay positive and look towards cutting the nets down in April. In a era where a lot of teams have one and done players, this Purdue team has 4 senior starters and that experience will take this Purdue team far this spring.
Something special is happening in West Lafayette and the national audience is starting to hop aboard the Boilermaker Train!
