NFL Referee Tony Corrente should be FIRED by NFL

NFL Referee Tony Corrente should be fired from the NFL for his blatant miscall in the Steelers/Patriots game on Sunday afternoon.  An “obvious” catch and extension into the end zone by Steelers TE Jesse James was ruled not a touchdown on the review by Corrente and team.

Corrente explained the call and the decision after the game to a pool reporter. (Transcript provided by the NFL, and shortened for brevity and clarity.)

On the touchdown that was called back, what was the review?

“We were inside of two minutes and in order to have a completed psas, a receiver must survive going to the ground. In this case, he had control of the football but he was going to the ground. As he hit the ground, the ball began to roll and rotate and the ball hit the ground and that’s the end of it at that point.

On whether it matters that he was untouched or that his knee was down:

“He lost complete control of the football. That was the ruling out of the replay.”

On the terminology that he used:

“I said that he just didn’t survive the ground. That’s the terminology that we use in officiating. You have to survive the ground, which means that you have to maintain control of the football.”

On whether this is similar to the Dallas wide receiver Dez Bryant play of several years ago in the playoffs:

“I can’t comment on Dez Bryant. I can only tell you that in this case, he went to the ground and had lost control of the ball. The ball hit the ground and that means, at that point, it’s incomplete pass whether he was touched or not.”

WHAT THE HELL IS A CATCH IN THE NFL??  There are so many scenarios in this league of what a catch is and isn’t.  “Surviving a catch”???  What the hell does that mean?  Once a ball crosses the goal line, the play is dead. PERIOD.

Looking into Tony Corrente’s career in the NFL, he has been refereeing since 1999 and a couple interesting stats looking at Corrente is that when he has refereed New England Patriots games, the Pats are 13-3 overall.

Listen, I don’t want to go “scorched earth” on this guy but I do believe in the 3 strikes and your OUT rule for a season.  This is the 3rd time that Corrente has had to rule end of game challenge play and has screwed up ALL three of them

1.Brandin Cooks end zone catch against the Texans in Week 3 with toes “touching the white out of bounds line”.

2. Austin Sefarian Jenkins TD catch that was “Overruled” in the Jets-Patriots game which is an obvious touchdown and even the announcers are baffled by the call.

And then this past Sunday in the AFC showdown.

This guy has screwed up 3 games this year……ALL in the Patriots favor and needs to fired by the NFL.  The Pats 13-3 when this guy is the lead referee and that’s all that needs to be said.

Yes, this may be sour grapes and a grudge, but I will take it to my grave that Jesse James caught the ball….not just because I’m a Steelers fan, but for the integrity of the NFL and what is a catch in the NFL!   I felt this guy’s pain below and yes the Steelers still had a chance to win or tie and Ben threw the pick, but it shouldn’t have came to that with the James touchdown catch.

It’s still a catch to me damnit !
