Jay Howard (226.744 mph) Tops The Charts on Thursday’s Indy 500 Practice

Jay Howard who hasn’t ran in the Indy 500 since 2012, topped the speed charts today at 226.744 mph.  His speed was with a tow and with other cars around him.  Without the tow, he was 12th on the charts.  Howard ran his fast lap in the first couple hours of practice as it was the hottest day this week that the guys raced in. Ryan Hunter -Reay and teammate Marco Andretti round out the top 3 today.  There was one incident today with Josef Newgarden hitting the turn 1 wall today.  He was injured in the crash.

The next couple days look difficult for the drivers to get laps in. There is significant rains in the forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday so it will be interesting if and when the drivers get back out on the course.  There is rain in the forecast all day tomorrow and will likely washout practice.  Qualifications start on Saturday and the fast 9 will move to qualify on Sunday for the pole position.
