By now, Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay have become household names. They have produced 400 NFL mock drafts, but we know the real 2017 NFL Draft will not look anything similar to theirs. Yes, there are going to be “sure things” throughout the draft, but each year there are always surprises and curveballs.

In preparation for the draft, here are five bold predictions that will come to fruition in the first round.

#1 Cleveland being Cleveland.

The Cleveland Browns return to being the Cleveland Browns we have come to know. They either pass on Myles Garrett, or trade their #1 pick. The Browns have tons of needs, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they fall back in the draft to acquire more picks in this year’s draft.

#2 Jabrill Peppers is not a first rounder.

Yes, Pepper is electrifying, but he is also a liability on defense. He was pushed out of plays at the college level, moving to the NFL with bigger and stronger players will not help him. He is a speedy player, but he can often over pursue a play and not be in position to make a tackle. NFL scouts are smarter than me, so I am sure they see this too. Expect Peppers to drop.

#3 Patriots trade Jimmy Garoppolo.

The rumors have died down for now, but they will fire up again in a couple of weeks. If the Patriots truly feel that Tom Brady can play another 2-4 seasons then why not cash in on Garoppolo now? My guess is that the Cleveland Browns are involved in this one, and trade Brock Osweiler and picks to the Patriots before or during the NFL Draft.

#4 DeShone Kizer plummets on the first day.

Let me start by saying, I love Fighting Irish football, and I am a Kizer fan. There always seems to be that quarterback or player who is expected to go early in the draft that doesn’t. This year, that player is DeShone Kizer. Hell, he may fall out of the first round completely. Don’t forget, he was benched last year.

#5 Nobody takes a QB early.

Wow. Quarterbacks have dominated the last three predictions on my list. But what else is new, this is a quarterback league right?! I anticipate no quarterbacks are drafted in the first ten picks.

The NFL Draft will surely have surprises for us, it is just a matter of time. I am hoping a few of my predictions come true. We will find out soon.
